FUN FACTS ABOUT SWEDES

Hi class! If any of you have serious plans of actually visiting Sweden or do a study abroad which I encourage you to dot, there are definitely a few fun things you should know about us! This is stuff my boyfriend and friends here in America laugh about regarding us Swedes and is generally know about us.

 1) If you see someone from work walking on the opposite side of the road, DON'T you dare talking to that person. We are independent people and do not want to talk to you till you are so close that it's simply impossible to ignore each other.

 2)  Swedes who just arrived to America for the first time will be very confused when you ask "Hey, how are you doing?" or "How's it going?", as they will answer the question properly and expect you to do so too.  You don't ask a Swede how their day is going if you don't have time to listen to fully listen to it.

 3) FIKA! Fika is like a religion to Swedish people and include cinnamon bun, cookies and a coffee.  Swedes will take at least 3 fika breaks during a work day to enjoy sweets and coffee while chatting with co-workers.

 4) Have you ever been to a Swedish party? Don't EVER forget to bring your own bag with alcohol! Only crazy people show up empty handed to a party according to Swedes.  Instead you bring your own alcohol, and you never have to worry about anyone else taking yours because it's NOT YOURS.

 5) Guys.. If you are taking a Swedish girl out on a date, FORGET that you will get to pay the bill.  She will fight you till she gets to pay half of it! Hello, we are a gender equal country!  Which means that you girls can not expect to go on free dinners with swedish guys! Don't forget you credit card.

 6) You tell your Swedish friends "I am going to church on Sunday", and they will look at you like you are an alien.  What is God?

 7) Don't you EVER walk in to a Swedish house with shoes on!! Are you crazy or something?

 8) It is ok to be quit! In fact, Swedes will value your silence.  There is no need to bother swedes with unnecessary talk.  I promise they are not mad only because they are quit for 10 minutes, they are just thinking about the next Fika paus.

 9) Swedes love to stand in line! It’s great, you never have to worry about the wrong person getting on the bus before you, there is a perfect line for everything.

 10) It’s a sunny day in Sweden and you want to stay indoors and chill.  WHAAAT’S WRONG WITH YOU? You don’t ever stay indoors on a sunny day in Sweden. Go outside you freak!

 -  But don’t worry, Swedes are very nice people and once you get yourself into a friend circle in Sweden, you will have friends for life.  There is no such thing as short term friends in Sweden.. once a homie always a homie :D  GO visit my home country!
