MARSTRAND FORTRESS

One of the cool things about Sweden is that we have so many old castles from far back.  This is a fortess located on Martrand which is a tiny little island close to the second largest city in Sweden: Göteborg.  This place is super cool to visit and I've been there myself multiple times.  It was built in the 1600 something to protect they new province from attacs etc.  During this time Sweden got many attacs from Norway and Denmark.

The fortess is huge, and if you visit this place you actually get to walk around everywhere and see what it looks like from the inside, on top of it etc.  And the best thing is that you don't need a guide, your're actually allowed to walk around by yourself.  Last time I was therre it was barely any people there which felt super cool and a little creapy at the same time.

The fortess became a prison at some point, and as you walk around you can walk in to the different prison cells, and read about old prisoners who used to lived there.  It was considered even worde than death to arrive to Marstrands prison, as they lived in the dark cells and worked all day long to carry heavy stones.  Reasons for going to this prison could be as simple things as: Steeling a silver spoon, stealing a fruit or just by being poor. We are talking about the years around 1700-1800.

You should check it out, realy cool place to visit and it's super old!
